“A mind, stretched by a new experience, can never go back to its old dimensions.”
                                                                                      -Oliver Wendell Holmes

BIOGRAPHY
I am a nature and food photographer based in the Boston area. I grew up just outside of Boston, attended Boston University and received my BA in psychology. My love of photography began before college though, when my father gave me his old Canon camera—I was immediately hooked. After graduation, my love of photography grew when I moved to northern California where I was surrounded and inspired by the rugged beauty of the west coast. Living there, I gained a deeper appreciation for the beauty of nature as well as photography as an art form. Primarily self-taught and driven by my passion for nature, I spent years discovering the landscape around me and trying to capture seemingly ordinary moments in unique ways.

Though much of my work is inspired by my travels in and around California, Vermont and Paris, I also enjoy the familiarity of my own backyard knowing I can always see things in new and unexpected ways through the lens of my camera. I currently live in the suburbs of Boston with my husband and love to cook, ski and travel when I'm not outside taking pictures.

ARTIST'S STATEMENT
“A nature lover and foodie at heart, I shoot what I am most passionate about…the great outdoors and all things food. I have always felt an emotional connection to the natural world and exploring the landscape with my camera truly frees my spirit and nourishes my soul. Whether I’m in the mountains, along the coastline or somewhere in between, I continue to be fascinated and inspired by the elements of nature.

I use only natural light and look for simple composition in my work. Macro photography allows me to see the details in our environment from a different perspective as I am drawn to contrast and the way that light, shadow and bold color play off each other. Both in nature and food photography I showcase my subject through vibrant blocks of color, uncommon shapes, forms, textures or lines—at times even portraying them graphically as abstract patterns or designs.

On my photographic journey, I find the key to creativity is inspiration, discovery and vision. Often, even an ordinary subject can transform into something extraordinary by seeing it from a different angle, allowing for more light or simply by having the patience to wait until the composition is exactly right. The inherent beauty of our natural world deeply affects me and experiencing and recording these fleeting moments through my own artistic interpretation is profoundly gratifying and meaningful to me. Through my photographs I hope I engage and inspire others to experience, appreciate and respect nature.”
